Pinky Mathema

Founder and Project Director

Pinky Mathema (Pinky) is deeply passionate about children. Pinky has opened her home in Iqaluit, Nunavut to provide a nurturing environment for children and youth in need of support. Pinky has been working with children and youth that have complex needs since 2006. She has over 14 years of experience and has undertaken extensive work with children in Nunavut. Pinky has worked in respite services and daycare programs, accumulating extensive insight into the unique family needs that impact northern communities and families.

She has lived in Iqaluit for three years and has seen the growing demand for care in the territory. Most of the children and youth that have been placed in her care, had been experiencing family problems, neglect, or various forms of abuse. Many were also placed in her care due to their behavior that other homes and facilities deemed too challenging to manage. This has led Pinky to expand this much-needed service with the aim of helping more children, youth, and young adults, especially those requiring special care. In response to a growing need for support solutions required by children, youth, and young adults with complex needs in Northern Canada, Pinky founded the Iqaluit-based Bright Nest Inc. (Bright Nest).

Pinky also serves as the Executive Director for Bright Nest and is accountable for all aspects of projects the company undertakes. In this capacity, she plans projects, oversees the programming and activities, and screens all candidates that she hires
